BMN Thanksgiving Traditions and how to celebrate Thanksgiving in Paris

It’s that all important turkey-stuffed time of year: Thanksgiving. You might be away from home this year but no worries, we’ve got you covered. Courtesy of past and present Be My Nounou nannies, we’ve hunted out the top traditions, from feasting to football, and how to celebrate Thanksgiving in Paris! Now, dig out your stretchiest pants and get hungry.

  1. Have yourself a meat coma

If you’re a vegetarian, look away now. One of the most popular Thanksgiving traditions is Turducken. Designed to get as much meaty goodness into one dish, Turducken a duck is stuffed with a chicken, which is stuffed into a turkey. Definitely belt-loosening territory…

Turducken might not be on the menu, but there are some restaurants which serve up a good Thanksgiving in Paris. Grab a handful of your expat friends and stuff yourselves with some lovely turkey. Or, maybe your families will be kind enough to make you a nice turkey dinner.

  1. Getting into sport, from a comfortable position

Watching a football game is a highlight of many people’s Thanksgivings. If you don’t want to waste your precious data allowance, check out Moose Paris where there’s a variety of foreign sports, including the NFL, MBA and NHL. If you have to Google what those are, we’re guessing you’re not American…

  1. Turkey pardonning

We’re not sure where you’re going to find a live turkey in the heart of Paris, but the tradition of turkey pardoning began way back with Ronald Reagan. George H.W. Bush made it official in 1988 and U.S Presidents have done it ever since, including Obama – shown here in front of his embarrassed children.

  1. A face full of pie

Like Christmas, eating too much is all path of the course. After your gut-filling main course, leave a bit of room for the quintessential Thanksgiving dessert: pie. From the classic sweet potato or pecan, to pumpkin and festive cranberry, there’s a handful of fillings you can stuff into those crusts. Check out the best Thanksgiving pie recipes here. Make one with your family!

This one could almost go without saying — after all it is in the title! Practice being grateful with your French family and friends, and for your families back at home. At Be My Nounou, we’re thankful for the hard love and commitment that each of our nannies put into their job.
