Tips for finding a babysitting job in Paris

Tips for finding a babysitting job in Paris

Just like the little ones, you too are going back to ‘school’ in September / October.

In this article, Be My Nounou gives you some advice on how to best prepare for the job. You should know that being a babysitter means being organized and patience which are valuable qualities for various hiring opportunities. Our babysitting agency is recruiting for the beginning of the school year in September for babysitters who are available for school pick ups throughout the school year. So, if you are interested in a fun and playful job, don’t forget to apply directly online.

  1. Update your resume and your experience with children

Updating your resume is the first step before applying for a babysitting job. Indeed, it allows recruiters to see your experiences from the most recent to the oldest. In the context of looking for a babysitting job, the objective of this first step is to highlight on your resume your skills with children such as organization, your availability, your patience and your creativity.

We advise all candidates to put their most recent experiences at the top of the resume and the oldest ones below. Also, don’t hesitate to put a heading concerning the position you are searching for, for example “Currently searching for a student job”.

Finally, we recommend that you update your availability on your resume, this allows recruiters to know directly when you are available and until when.

We also advise students to be honest since the recruiter will obviously verify the information you provide. Lastly, ensure that there are no grammar or spelling mistakes, you can do this by having someone else proofread your application.

  1. Be clear about your availability

If you are studying at a university, find out what days and times you are available to work.

This will allow you to know your availability and thus make it easier to get a nanny job.

Being clear about when you are available to work will help you find a position that is best suited to you. The general times babysitters need to be free are from  4:00 pm to 4:30 pm so you can collect the children from school and mind them until the parents return from work between 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm.

We know that as a student it is sometimes difficult to know your class schedule in advance. Don’t panic, just do what you can. If you wish, don’t hesitate to ask for your schedule in advance, some universities communicate it to students before the beginning of the school year. For those who can, it is possible to create your own schedule according to the course modules.

  1. Reserve a time slot to do an interview

This step is an important part of the recruitment process. Before finding a babysitting job, you will have to do an interview so that the recruiter knows more about you, your personality, your skills and your experience with children. This first interview will allow you to show your motivation and your willingness to work with children.

Having a successful interview is very important, to impress your interviewer it is necessary to keep some form of professionalism whilst also being yourself.

During an interview a recruiter expects two major skills; motivation & initiative. So don’t panic, we’re sure you can do it!

Some tips: make sure you show up for the interview on time. If you are interviewing via the zoom platform, don’t hesitate to check if your microphone and camera are working. Although it’s comfortable, trade in your pajamas (lol) for daytime attire to present well in your interview.

  1. Meet the right family

If you pass the interview, the agency will propose the hours and number of children you want to care for. The following step is to meet the family.

This moment is essential because this meeting with the family will determine whether or not you are a good match. But do not worry because this meet up normally goes very well since the recruitment team makes sure to send your applications to the families that correspond to you in terms of availability, purpose, hobbies and location.

This meeting allows the family to get to know you. It also allows you to meet the children with whom you will be bonding with during the school year. The goal is for you to take an interest in the children, what they like to do, their habits, etc.

  1. Start your childcare hours serenely

In order to start your childcare hours with peace of mind, you should prepare and be organized about when and what you will be doing with the children during your work-hours.

Here are a few tips: Keep track of the times you need to collect the children from school by jotting them down on your phone or a calendar. Ensure that you don’t forget anything before picking up the children from their schools, such as snacks and their sports bags if they have extracurricular activities after school. Prepare and think of all the fun and creative activities you will be doing with them, to keep the children busy during the daycare.
